When I got my license I was handed down a 98 Saturn Sl2 that was originally my dads, then my sisters, then sort of mine. I did all the maintenance on it, I was the only person that drove it, and I put gas in the tank.
Well you see it had one little problem; it had the 1.9 DOHC attached to a 5 speed tranny. It was hard to resist driving it like I stole it, constantly. I always made sure it was up to temperature first and I always made sure it had sufficient oil. Every chance I got, I was doing pulls (when alone on the road of course).
You see, I spent all afternoon after school today putting in a new radiator because the old one was cracked (one we got from the junkyard several years ago after my sister wrecked it and we fixed it). So its all good to go, in the process, I even left off the intake resonator, which made it sound glorious under WOT acceleration.
So I'm on the way somewhere with my friend, no less than two hours ago from when I'm writing this and I was already driving pretty fast. I start getting the feeling that I'm being tailed by police or something (I don't know, I'm a teenager and like I said, because dumbass) because the car behind me that was closer to me when leaving my neighborhood, was maintaining a close proximity to me despite my speed racer ways. First chance I get, I cut down another back woods road and start really getting on it and I get around the bend approaching the top of 4th gear and I go to shift into 5th and that's when it happens. Bang. There's all kinds of weird noises and thunks so I turn off the car and let it coast down the road. I park get out, put on my hazards, and check it out. It is just pissing motor oil.
Shit.
Well that's it. We had a good run. I'm regretful for being such an idiot but hey that's how we learn when we're children.
I call my father and get him to tow me painfully slow all the way home.
I feel bad, but I'm not sure I've learned my lesson. Hearing that motor sing is just too satisfying. We will see...

Well the Saturn is not the most Jalop car...and that doesn't matter because you hooned so hard you broke it...and that is worth at least 1000 Jalop points. :D

Every shit car I have ever had has left my possession in non-running condition. Just buy a better car next time. Starting with something designed to be abused always helps.
The saddest part is, the Saturn's value probably isn't very different in non-running condition than when it was running ;)

At least you loved it, and that's what mattered. The car was probably happier to be driven by you than an old folk.

That is exactly my thought haha I figured with over 200k on it, it wasn't really worth much to begin with. And will do!

Just be careful, Don't kill yourself or your friends. I did the same thing when I was your age. I had an 86 Toyota Celica and it had two throttle positions, Idle and WOT until I reached cruising speed. Cars just aren't built to handle being beat on like that. We were all young and "invincible" once but I must stress, please be careful, I'd hate to hear about you getting killed or killing your friends and have to live with that for the rest of your life. I'm not trying to preach, I've been there, had several close calls, and was very lucky.

No I definitely hear where you're coming from. I don't think I'm invincible but I do think I take a certain amount of precaution to when and where I do these things. I appreciate it though.

Agreed! I'm sure when it left a GM factory in 98, they never figured it would eventually be driven by a 17 year old who wanted to learn it all. Heel toe-ing, split second shifts, you name it! :D

I had a 92 single cam when I was young that thing was great. It was a hand me down from my mother, and joined the crap out of that thing. When I sold it it had close to 300k miles on it. That and the single cam focus are the cars I miss and had the most fun in, not the mustangs or the lightning, but the cheap ones.

Protip: If you think you're being followed? Slow down, get a closer look at them, then decide whether you're going to go fast or not.
Unless you think they have guns.

There's definitely fun to be had with shitty cars, that's for sure.
